Appointed on 18 September 2008 as Chief Justice for the newly formed Supreme Court of the Republic of Maldives, Abdullah Saeed was born on 25 September 1964, and raised in Meedhoo in Addu Atoll. From that classic island childhood in the Maldives, Abdullah Saeed went on to become one of the country's foremost lawyers who has treasured himself with a combined legal knowledge of continental European and Common Law, and Islamic Shari'ah. He rose from the ranks, having begun his career as a State Attorney. Also, he served as first Dean of the Faculty of Shari'ah and Law of the Maldives College of Higher Education, Director of Public Prosecutions, Assistant Director General of Public Prosecutions and the Deputy Attorney General before his current appointment.
